Migration to online

We have read with interest a number of recent articles regarding the growing importance of online within the recruitment sector. There were two in particular that really caught our eye and, together they give an interesting insight into the current market and also what we can expect over the next few years.

Job Search on the Internet is booming

During 2008, activity levels on job sites have increased dramatically compared to the levels in 2007.

Analysis of the activities on the job sites powered by MatchWork shows a very clear and positive trend – job search on the Internet is booming.

Declining market?

The prognosis for 2009 is that job advertising will decline in response to economic conditions. It is difficult to argue against this and, while the extent of the decline will vary in MatchWork markets, the stage is set for negative growth.

Bumper online figures for newspapers

The research by Nielsen found that, in November 2008, 10.3m Britons visited at least one of the ten most popular newspaper websites compared to 8.3m last year, representing growth in online audience of 23%.

Ad Advantage to Local Online Media

According to a new report by the Online Publishers Association, local media sites hold a distinct advantage when it comes to delivering results for advertisers. The study finds that consumers tend to trust advertising on local newspaper, magazine and television websites and are very likely to take action after viewing ads on such sites.

MatchWork was present at the 78th INMA World Congress in Los Angeles, USA. Amidst the current atmosphere of “gloom and doom” surrounding the industry, more than 350 delegates came away with a different message from the Congress.

In early June more than 1.800 delegates from all over the world participated in the 61st World Newspaper Congress in Gothenburg organised by WAN (World Association of Newspapers).
